It's May!

This week was Teacher Appreciation week.  Oh my, PTA has done a fabulous job of spoiling all of the staff members at RCE - from frozen yogurt to snacks delivered and lunch on Friday - we have been treated royally!  We all truly appreciate all the PTA has done for RCE.  Thank you to Nancy, and the office staff for the lovely bag - we'll all be stylin' this summer!  We have loved the Baseball theme this year!

First grade had a field trip to George Ranch.  The weather couldn't have been better....if only the buses had cooperated.  Mrs. Hiner's class learned a BIG lesson in patience.  But all returned to RCE safe and sound!

PreK had some plays on Friday - Eric Carle's "Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "The Very Quiet Cricket."  Both classrooms did an amazing job.

Friday was Law Read day.  Maria Lowry visited our campus to read to second-grade students.  She shared the book "Grandaddy's Turn, a Journey to the Ballot Box."  The students enjoyed the reading and learned about the job of a lawyer.  Thank you to the Houston Bar Association for providing the Law Read Days during the school year.

Thursday night was Young Author's night at Barnes and Noble.  Once again we were amazed at the writing the students shared.  This year we had the added treat of a concert by the Recorder Ensemble.  They sounded amazing!  The Young Author's night is one of my favorite evenings for RCE, I love hearing the students share their own work - we have some great writers at RCE!

Friday AM, Mrs. Smith's First Grade class won the Spirit Stick.  Our word for the month is EFFORT.

Our Watch Dogs continue to be so helpful and stepping up to almost any job we give them - even when it's helping out with Growth and Development classes.  Thank you, DADS!
Next week is STAAR Testing week at RCE.  Our students are ready!   I know they will do a GREAT JOB....especially if they put forth EFFORT on the STAAR Test!  (No visitors on campus next week! - we will miss our volunteers and Watch Dogs!)

Have a wonderful weekend.  Hope to see you at Run for the Arts!  Be sure you vote for SBISD School Board (at your local Middle School -MMS).  Enjoy the weather, enjoy your sporting events and most of all enjoy your family time!
