The end of April

It's so hard to believe it is the end of April.  The year has flown by!  May brings STAAR testing (Week of May 8th), Book Fair (week of May 15th) and Fifth Grade Graduation and Boogie Down Brittmoore.

This week the Spirit Stick was won by Mrs. Hanlen's Kindergarden class.  They have been working really hard the past few weeks to follow school rules.

Bike Brigade finished their challenge - the South Side beat the North Side!  Check the graph on the Library windows. It's a good challenge when everybody wins - riding a bike to school is a win for everyone involved.  May 10th is the National Walk & RideYour Bike to School Day....so RIDE YOUR BIKE to RCE!!!!

Second Grade students have been studying about Butterflies and their life cycles.  This week the butterflies have been released!
Thank you, Mr. Rice and volunteers.  Fifth grade loves Hands On Science!  The experiments are "out of this world!"

Gentle Reminder - Lost and Found is still overflowing with sweaters, hats, water bottles, and more.  Check it out as the weather gets warmer.  We'll take one more load of clothing to Sherwood before the end of school....come and check out what we have in Lost and Found.

Student Council is busy getting ready for all of their year-end projects - Book Swap and School Supply Drive. They are so excited about all they do.  Thankful for their participation and enthusiasm.

We celebrated Administrative Professionals day and School Library Month.  So much fun!
We've had those April "showers", looking forward to some May flowers!  Have a great weekend!

Field Day!

Yes, we had school Monday - Thursday.  And yes, the students worked hard and learned a lot....but FRIDAY was FIELD DAY!

Spirit Stick was won by Ms. Roche's Fourth Grade class.  Way to go guys!  We've watched you change over the past few weeks!  Love how you are walking silently in the hallways and listening to your teacher!

Thank you, Mr. Hickman, for planning the day.  Thank you, Watch Dog Dads for showing up and taking part with FIELD DAY.  Thank moms and MAC (Memorial Athletic Club - Parisi Speed School) for being a part of our wonderful day.  The weather was MARVELOUS - sunny with a good breeze.  It was so nice to see so many parents, grandparents, and siblings.  It was a GREAT day for FIELD DAY!
Thank you, faculty and staff, for participating and encouraging your students. It was a terrific day.

As you walk around the field watching the students participate in "Tug of War", "Sack Races", and more...you could hear the cheers created by the students to encourage and support each other.  It was a wonderful experience for the students.
Enjoy the photos and videos below from FIELD DAY!

Such a fun day!  Enjoy the weekend!!!

Spring has sprung!

What a lovely week at Rummel Creek.  After a downpour on Monday, the rest of the week has been quite lovely (despite the mud on the playground!).  Spring has sprung - it's so hard to sit in desks indoors when you look out and see the sun shining - but yet we have so much learning to do before the STAAR tests!

With Spring comes little birds.  Today outside the library, Colin found a hummingbird.  I think most of second grade watched the bird instead of selecting books.  It was such a tiny little bird.

This week we had some wonderful Watchdogs in the building!  So much fun to have the dads coming to visit and work with the students.  We love having our Watchdogs on campus.

The past few weeks at RCE, we have been encouraging students to teach other students.  This morning we caught Ms. Gandolfo's third grade class working with their reading buddies in Mrs. Bacon's class.  The third graders were teaching the second graders how to make book reviews using the app Telligami.  We've been doing this with several grade levels.  In honor of School Library Month, we have been showing the Telligami's on KRCE each morning.  A great way to share books with the students!

With the short week, we did not award the Spirit Stick.  Next week we will award the Spirit Stick to the class who works hard showing GRIT!

Bike Brigade is in the middle of the April Challenge.  This week the northside had 42 and the south side had 55.  Check the graph just outside the library to see the challenge in action!  Will you ride your bike next week?  Every Friday we have the Bike Brigade Challenge.  Join in next week!

Lost and Found - it's time to check the lost and found for you missing jackets and water bottles.  The Lost and Found is overflowing with STUFF!  Come and check out what we have - it's back on as a KRCE feature this month - we've already matched students with clothing in the few days it's been back on the air!  Come and take a look!

Last week our Third Grade OM team went to State Competition - we are so proud of the team!  Our Chess Club also had a competition - YEAH!  They did so well!

Thank you PTA AGAIN!!!!!   The Chromebooks have arrived for the Third Grade Team!  Just this week we did our lesson to prepare for them.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

RCE is the place to be!  Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather!
