Thankful

It's a short week, just two short days.  But even in those short two days the RCE Roadrunners were busy with learning, activities and more.

It's a time of the year when we think about what blessings we have in our lives.  I think back to just one year ago when we were all frantically packing to leave the transition campus and move to our new campus.  We are all so thankful for this new facility.  At times its difficult to remember what the old campus looked like and felt like.
A thank you to the Rummel Creek PTA that provides so much for the teachers and staff every day.  We love the Thanksgiving pies we received today as we left school.  We are thankful for the luncheons, all of the extra little things that make working at Rummel Creek such a blessing.
At Rummel Creek, we are thankful for students that go out of their way to do their best.  This week the spirit stick was awarded to Mrs. Trevino's second grade class.  Each week it gets harder and harder to select the class to award the spirit stick to.  We are thankful for the students that work so hard.
I am very thankful for the special library groups that meet in the library - from the Library Board that gives me ideas, to the Bluebonnet Bunch that always has something outstanding to say about the current title we are discussing, to the Student Council students that have such a heart and passion for helping others.  And of course, how could I miss saying how Thankful I am for the KRCE crews - each month the students amaze me with their ability to punt and do the show every morning even with technical difficulties.  It's amazing to have so many students that "Do the right thing, because it IS the right thing to do!"
I am thankful this year for the Watch DOGS that come in each day.  Watching the dads work with the students in the building is amazing.  The students admire the Dads, and sometimes just that little extra time with a male figure is just what a student needed.  So thankful that Dads are spending time with their children.
I am also thankful for a few days away from RCE for Thanksgiving.  Time to rest, reflect and spend time with family.
Blessings of the season to you all.  Enjoy the holidays with your families.  Take time to be Thankful.

Enjoy the photos and videos below from our short week.

November Happenings

It's been a full week at Rummel Creek this week.

MAP Testing for grades 1-5.  If you ever had doubts that we needed updated technology in the school, trying to do on-line testing with old computers for grades 1-5 shows us what we really need!
Thank goodness our PTA has purchased some new chromebooks - how I wished they had been delivered before this week!

Kindergarten parents and grandparents, and brothers and sisters were treated to an outstanding performance by the Kindergarten students.  They donned their special Thanksgiving costumes and sang at the top of their lungs.  Fun time watching the students perform.

Makerspaces in the library again this week.  The students are having fun creating.

Only two days next week and hopefully cooler weather.  Some of our Roadrunner friends have already taken off for Thanksgiving.  Looking forward to a short week and then some time for family.

Excitement! Innovation November

With November comes voting, testing, Fall Festival, and Innovation!

Fall Festival was amazing this year.  Our first Fall Festival back at 625 Brittmoore!  The Fall Festival committee did an an outstanding job of keeping old favorites, and bringing in some new ideas.  Best thing ever - it was all out on the playground.  Thank goodness the weather held and the sun was barely peeking from behind the clouds.  Find photos - use the hashtag #RCEFF or #RCERoadrunners.

Last week with Fall Festival, there was not a posting on the blog.  So this week - two Spirit Stick reports.  Mrs. Robbie's class followed by Ms. Marshall's class were awarded the Spirit Stick.  So proud of these two classes for working so hard to follow directions.  Our word for the month of November is Excellence.   At Rummel Creek we expect EXCELLENCE in behavior, in school work, in working with friends, in walking in the hallways, in helping others.

Election Day was Tuesday - we had Watch Dogs, police officers and more to watch over the students and keep everything "cool."  With more than 60% of the precinct voting in early voting, the flow of voters through the building was nominal - however RCE was READY!  Thank you Mr. Hickman for preparing things so well AND allowing RCE students to walk through the voting area to see how voting works and to learn about their civic duty to vote.

Innovation November in the RCE Library.  Students are able to explore the creative makerspaces in the Library to create, construct and collaborate.  Using their imaginations, students filled the library with noise and excitement with their creations.

Great couple of weeks to be a roadrunner.  Be watching for more photos and stories soon!
