Red Ribbon Week and More!

Students enjoyed the fun activities surrounding Red Ribbon Week.  From wearing hats, silly socks, and Halloween gear to the final extravaganza - a visit from Toro, the Texan Mascot.  Our campus has displayed the Red Ribbons to support the "Say No to Drugs" program.   The Spirit Rally started with the choir singing - and then......the guest appearance of Toro.

The week has been filled with Teacher Training and Planning too!  The teachers at RCE are always learning and implementing something that will make a difference for their students' learning.  Spring Branch has provided wonderful in-services for our staff.  Several teachers were able to hear from John O'Flahavan at Frostwood.  Great ways to learn!

Tuesday night, parents and community members were able to hear from Dr. Collier.  Her presentation is great!  Here's the link to her presentation for those who were unable to attend.  Her topic of "The Science of High Risk Behavior" is something that we should continue to discuss in the Rummel Creek community.

Friday morning was the Book Character Parade.  The costumes this year were fabulous!  It's always fun to see the students dress up as a favorite character!  Short Video from this morning.

Fourth Grade Student Council finished their Food Drive for the East Spring Branch Food Pantry in honor of our Sister School Sherwood.  The Food Drive was a huge success.  Friday, just after noon, the students were able to load the truck for the food pantry.  Thank you to Jill Hughes, RCE Library Volunteer and former teacher, for putting the connections together.  It is so wonderful to see the students take such an active role in helping others.  Thank you for supporting the Fourth Grade Student Council Food Drive.

Socktober is almost over.  Jacob Baker has done a tremendous job in getting the sock drive organized and advertised.  Some of the socks will go towards Fifth Grade Student Council's project others will be distributed to homeless shelters in Houston.  Thank you so much for supporting Jacob's idea.

We had Watch Dogs every day this week.  The classrooms LOVE having the Dads visit each day.

It was training week for the new crew for KRCE.  Lots of learning going on from the old crew to the new crew!  The October Crew gave a sad farewell with the "hats off" good bye!  Watch DOGS and Teacher of the Week joined in on Friday as well!

Mrs. Bacon's second grade class received the Spirit Stick!  Congratulations to Mrs. Bacon's class.  The competition is getting tighter and tighter every week!

Next week is the Fall Festival!  WOW....it's November already!  Fifth Grade Tech Team began creating our advertisement for Fall Festival - Raffle Items Slideshow and then Telligami's to tell about the Friday event!  Thanks Fifth Grade November/December Crew!

Amazing Week at the Creek

Last week, October 17 - 21, was an amazing week at Rummel Creek.  Book Fair started Monday and went through the week.  WOW!  Best Book Fair ever!  Thank you Rummel Creek Community for supporting the library and it's programs by participating in the annual Book Fair.  It could not have gone better.  Monday night the RCE Fiddlers and the RCE Choir entertained the shoppers.  Art work by students was displayed in the library and, one of our staff members dressed as a pirate (Thank you Ms. Cook from PreK!)  What more could you ask for opening night of the Book Fair.  The week  continued with a Friday surprise with Donuts with Dad.  Thank you Dads for visiting the library while you enjoyed the donuts with your children.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Rummel Creek Community.

Along with Book Fair, the Fourth Grade Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive for the East Spring Branch Food Pantry.  It's going well.  We'll collect food through Thursday, October 28th!  Bring your food donations to the library next week.  As a result of the food drive at Rummel Creek, 40 families from our Sister School, Sherwood, will receive Thanksgiving day meals and additional vouchers for food from the pantry.  This is such a great way to help the families at Sherwood.  Thank you Fourth Grade Student Council members for working hard on this project!

Third graders, Jacob Baker, has launched his Socktober campaign.  He wants to collect 1000 pairs of socks for the homeless in Houston.  These socks will join the November service project sponsored by Fifth Grade Student Council.  (More details on the November project soon!)  Please support Jacob Baker by bringing your socks to your classroom.  We'll collect socks through October 31st.

Parent Conferences were held during the week as well.  Lots of parents visited RCE to meet with teachers.  Such a wonderful way to connect and share the wonderful things RCE students are doing!

Friday was Donuts with Dad.  Great turn out of Dads spending time with their children.  The students were so excited to see all of the Watch DOGS in their gear.  The KRCE crew thought we had a lot of Watch Dogs to put on the morning show.  So nice to see Rummel Creek families visiting together.

Ms. Foster's Second Grade class received the Spirit Stick.  Congratulations!

Be watching for information about the school Fall Festival.  Friday, November 4th!

October is nearly over.  This year is flying by!   It's great to be a Roadrunner!

Making a Difference 2016

This week's notes shares all the ways that Rummel Creek Students make a difference.  We have so many students that care for others and the projects they sponsor make a difference for others.

Third grade student, Jacob Baker, has a great idea with Socktober.  He is collecting adult socks (preferably white athletic) for the homeless.  These socks will go with our project later in the year for Martha's Kitchen, which will be sponsored by Fifth Grade Student Council.

In conjunction with Book Fair, the Fourth Grade Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive to help our Sister School Sherwood Elementary.  The food we collect will go to the East Spring Branch Food Pantry.  As a result of our food drive, 40 Sherwood Families will receive a Thanksgiving Dinner and food vouchers.  This is a great way for our students to help the families at Sherwood.  Students bringing in 5 food items can put their name in the raffle for a gift certificate to the Book Fair or time in the library with our robotics and electronics.

Book Fair is going on at Rummel Creek.  This year we have a Signature Fair by Scholastic Books.   It's bigger than any Book Fair we have had at Rummel Creek!  Our Night Sale is on Monday, October 17th from 5:30 - 7:30.  The Choir will sing and we have displays of student artwork and Social Studies projects on the shelves.  Come and browse the student work as you buy books.  Book Fair supports the library programs.  (We have an author, Bruce Colville, scheduled for grades 3, 4 & 5 at this time.)

Mrs. Bacon's class had fun with Peter Reynold's book "ISH" as they created their American Symbols ish....with legos.  So much fun!

Our Watchdogs have been fabulous.   The teachers are loving the dads coming to RCE.  From the 5th grade teachers, " Just a huge shout out to Kevin McMahon.  He spoke to all of 5th grade yesterday afternoon about his job.  He works for a consulting firm as an organizational psychologist, which the kids had never heard of.  He explained all of the work he did with New Orleans ISD after Katrina, relocating teachers and staff, students, and campuses and equated it to our move to Westchester and back.  The kids were fascinated and asked incredible questions.  Trey Gardner asked, “Do you handle a stressful situation with the manager different than you do the rest of the employees?”  Jake Hearne asked, “Do you work with oil and gas companies during these low gas price times?”  It was amazing.''

Next week are parent conferences at RCE.  It's so nice to see the parents visiting the school!

It's been an awesome week at Rummel Creek!
