First Two Weeks is In the Books!

Sitting here on Labor Day, looking back on the first two weeks of school.  This blog entry was written several times, photos taken, but never published.  So...here we go again to write about the first two weeks of school and hopefully get it posted!

After "Meet the Teacher" went so smooth - that's what we expected for the first day.  And...sure enough the first day, the first week, the first two weeks have gone sooooo smooth.  We are all excited about beginning the school year in our new school.  It didn't seem like such a big thing, but knowing that no moves are in the near future, sure makes starting school a positive experience.  The teachers spent so much time making their rooms "just right" for their new students.  Bulletin boards and window greetings were in place in an extravagant manner!  There was no question of the pride we have this year!

From the first day, students knew how to move around the building.  An amazing fifth grade moved almost silently from class to specials beginning on the first day.  Perhaps that is why they were awarded the first Spirit Stick of the year.

For the second week of school, Kindergarten showed that they knew how to follow directions and they were awarded the Spirit Stick for week 2!  Can't wait to see who gets it next week!  (They have a short week to earn it!)

The third day of school brought KRCE.  This is the first crew for the year - yet it seems like they are veterans - we haven't had an issue (other than a dead mike) from the first day we went on the air.  They have written their scripts, come up with some dynamite ideas and put on an outstanding daily broadcast each morning.

Fourth day of school we had an Odyssey of the Mind information meeting - lots of parents in attendance - can't wait to see the students who will sign up.  Our school theme for the year "Think Outside the Box!" just fits with Odyssey of the Mind!

On the second Tuesday night we had WATCH DOGS night at Rummel Creek.  The RCE Dads came out in full force - the cafeteria was PACKED!  So many dads and children!  Looking forward to what the WATCH DOGS do at Rummel Creek this year!  Tuesday after Labor Day is the first day with Watch Dogs on Campus.

Mystery readers have started at RCE!  First Grade had a mom come to share and she brought her harp!  How many students can boast that they heard a symphony harpist play in their classroom.  What a difficult act to follow.

The art teacher has taken the school theme to heart!  In Art class, students created "Think Outside the Box" sculptures that now adorn the hallways around the school.  Let's see how the students can Think Outside the Box this year!...

Friday was the PTA Coffee and first PTA meeting.  The cafeteria was FULL!  So many new faces to add to our Rummel Creek Family.  It's going to be a great year.

And...lastly, the teachers at RCE also love to have fun and Think Outside the Box!  Fifth Grade teachers (and those they get to join them) ALWAYS have fun!
