Go Bold! Go Gold! Be Brave!

Rummel Creek has celebrated Go Gold Week strong this year.  A group of third graders led by Kenadee Erler, Connally Kuykendall, Ellie Romero, and Mia Forero made movies, sold gold bands and were featured on KRCE, the morning broadcast. The girls wrote scripts, learned how to utilize the app Telligami, and worked together to produce the daily videos to promote awareness for children with childhood cancer.

Friday morning PBS sent a videographer/photographer to catch the presentation of a medal to Rummel Creek cancer survivor, Kora Vavasour for a documentary.  The Go Gold girls made a presentation as well on the morning broadcast!

All across RCE on Friday you saw yellow and gold shirts, socks, bands and more.  Rummel Creek is a "Go Gold, Go Bold" school!

Lots of new things to explore!

Yesterday, two big boxes of technology dropped into the library.  It's the beginning of our robotics and coding!  Thanks to the fifth grade and fourth grade tech team we figured out how to use a Sphero Spark +  and after much tugging at the packaging we opened up the ozobots and had them going on a track.  MakerSpaces with robotics, construction and art are now part of the Rummel Creek Library.  The Tech Teams are exploring first, then they will share with classmates.  Can't wait to see where this takes the students.

Third Grade Tech Team continued writing their books on Book Creator - they are now ready to teach their classmates the app!  Once the books are written, we'll be able to add them to our E-book Collection for others to read.
The Tech Team is doing an awesome job of learning new technologies.  Their job is to share what they have learned with others.  I'm so thankful that the students just jump in and explore.

Student Council has had their first meeting.  The ideas to help the RCE Community, Spring Branch Community and communities outside of our area was amazing.  Be watching the RCE Flash with information about donation drives, letter writing campaigns, and volunteer activities for your children.  Student Council is busy every morning cutting the Box Tops for Education.  They are ready to work hard and do great things for RCE!
We have had a great week of Watch Dogs!  Students and teachers love having the dads in the school working with the kids!

Have a great weekend!  Enjoy Stratford's Homecoming game!

Marching into September

With September comes the first field trips, open house, and class photos.  School is now a routine as students know where to go and what to do.  By mid-September, we are ready to learn - we have learned the school, know our teachers and follow the rules - we are now ready to tackle whatever comes our way.

Fifth grade started the week with a field trip - only this was an in house field trip - the exhibit came to RCE!  Students were able to go from station to station learning in the library.  Great fun and no bus rides!

Tuesday was individual student pictures in the library.  While the students patiently waited for their pictures to be taken, they enjoyed a video about Peter Reynolds the author and illustrator of the book "The Dot."  Thursday, September the 15th was International Dot Day so after sharing the book <The DOT> by Peter Reynolds as well as "Ish" by Peter Reynolds, the students added to Dot Day Creation Wall.  It was fun watching the students create using their imagination.

Wednesday was "Watch Dog Day!"  We had newspapers and TV stations come to learn about our wonderful dad program.  We love having the Watch Dogs in our school.  This week we caught a few Watch Dogs in action!

Thursday was Open House for all grade levels.  It was so nice to see all of the parents at the school to meet the teachers and learn about programs at the school.  Lots of new faces mixed in with returning parents.  2016-2017 is going to be a great year!

Finally it's FRIDAY!  The rain cleared in time for recess.  The weekend is near.   PreK was awarded the SPIRIT STICK for their hard work in doing their best.

Students on Tech Team finished their Telligami's and started with Book Creator.  It's exciting to see them learn the different apps.  Two dads were here today for Watch Dog.  It has been a VERY GOOD DAY to end a VERY GOOD WEEK!

Go Roadrunners!

September is a Busy Time

We may have had a holiday from school on Monday, but with all of the activities at RCE, you would have never guessed!  This short week has been filled with activities.
Not only do we have dads as Watch Dogs, we have dads leading the boys in the Fifth Grade Heroes.  So nice to have all of the dads involved at RCE.
